So last weekend, we got our butt's into gear and organized our master closet. It had been in shambles for sometime now (as you can see by the before pictures).
We started by taking everything out and wiping down all the shelves and vacuuming.
We also removed that Cabinet door. It was always in our way and didn't make much since.
We both agreed that the closet needed to be painted but since we started this project late and the Husband had to go to bed soon for work the next morning, painting didn't happen but it will one of these days.
We decided to switch things up a bit. Originally all my clothes hung on the two shelves to the left and the Husband's clothes hung on the one shelf to the right. Well, the left is a bit high for me and since the Husband is 6' 3" I thought it would be better for us to switch. We also took this time to purge clothes and shoes again.
We also boxed up all our winter clothes which created tons of space in the closet.
We splurged on these 2 shoe racks form The Container Store. I say splurge because they were $30 a piece, but well worth the moola.
And since I own way too many shoes I stacked up my sneakers on one of the shelves.
And all our flip flops and my flats went into this basket.
We stacked our jeans on the other 2 bottom shelves.
And our bath towels, hand towels and wash clothes went on the shelves above that.
We bought some additional black baskets that store our scarves, gloves and hats. And I placed all my bags in a big bag. Additional shoes (that don't get worn often) stayed in their boxes and were also placed on the shelf.
And on the other side, winter boots and a basket full of the Husband's stuff.
We were able to get the laundry sorter in our closet. It's been living out in the open in our room and driving me crazy.
The entire closet after!
We can walk all the way to the back!! :) Happy Rachel!!
Again, Before and After.
We have been living with our new organized closet for a little over a week now and it's working for us. Things are getting put back in their spots and we can still walk to the back. :) Happy mornings in the Goodman house. No more, "I have nothing to wear!"
Do you have any secrets to keeping an organized closet?
