office plans!

Last night we hit up the local Ikea to spend some all of that moola (plus some) we made at our garage sale this past Saturday. Since we sold our desk and desk chair at the before mentioned garage sale we were in need of at least a new desk and chair. I've been begging the Husband for bookshelves for quite some time now (we just didn't know where they would go). My books are stuck in a closet and they look so sad each time I open the door to that closet. I CAN NOT wait to show them some respect and have them on display in our made over office/ music room but I'm getting ahead of myself.

The office shares a space with the Husbands love of music. He plays the bass and is learning the guitar. Until last July he was in a band. So, this room has multiple functions, for me it's a place to pay bills, computer time (aka blog reading & Facebook!), book storage, photo storage, craft storage, gift wrapping supplies, etc. So we need lots of storage for all of my stuff and all the Husbands music equipment and cables (and there are a lot of cables to store, let me tell you). So after seeing this post on iheartorganizing's blog (you can check out one of my favorite blog's to follow here) I had an idea.

Here are my inspirational photos:

These are billy book cases from Ikea with cabinet doors attached for behind the scenes storage! What a fabulous idea! Why didn't I think of this so long ago??

So, with this inspiration under my belt I whipped up this sketch I had in my head to show to the Husband (he is a very visual person, so me describing what I wanted wasn't going to work, he needed something to go off of).
Excuse this picture, it was taken with my phone at work!

I did some research to see exactly what bookcases we would want and what color would work best for us. So we decided on the Billy Bookcases in Brown-Black.

We got this desk because we both like the style and it's something that can stand alone if we ever need it to move to another room if the office/music room needs to become something different, maybe future children.

And we picked up these floating shelves to go over the desk and between the bookcases.
We also snagged four cabinet doors to go on the bottom halves of the bookcases but I was unable to find pictures of this online, they are solid and the same color as the shelves.

We haven't found a desk chair yet but my company is having an office furniture surplus sale today and I may hop on over there to see if I can snag anything cheap! I love a good deal.

We also saw this chair that we both love (I couldn't believe the Husband went for the floral). But we didn't purchase it last night, hopefully sometime in the future... I see it finding a home in the corner of the office and becoming my reading chair!

There you have it! Our future plans for our office/music room. Currently everything we purchased last night is chilling in their respective boxes in the garage. I'm not quite sure when anything will get put together we have a very busy May ahead of us!

garage sale success!

The garage sale was a huge success on Saturday. We only had it for one day and anything that wasn't sold was donated to Goodwill. To our surprise we made a killing, by a killing I mean we made enough to replace the desk we sold and to purchase some much needed shelving and storage in our office/music room (more of that to come). I was worried Friday night that we wouldn't get enough foot traffic because we live in a tiny neighborhood on a dead end street. Saturday morning I got even more worried because it was incredibility windy and I thought none of our signs would hold up. Lucky for us it all worked out. I even posted a listing on Craig's List Friday afternoon and was surprised when a lady stopped by looking for specific items that I listed on it. I didn't think anyone would look at that posting.

Overall, we are very happy that we sucked it up and spent a day in our driveway with our crap! I wish I would have gotten some pictures but sadly I didn't.

Any successful garage sale stories of your own?
